You could bet that there would be a horror game available at the launch of the PlayStation VR. Here They Lie with the headset from Sony also this, but this title picks up something else than the average horror title.
You are like protagonist looking for an old lover named Dana. You do this - as this is a horror game - not in a world of bright colors, but a city that seems to have become extinct at first sight and (especially at the beginning of the game) a lot Silent Hill-like vibe has .
As you could tell from the previous line, so you are not alone in this mysterious city. The story around you in touch with someone over the phone and you'll soon hounded by people (animals) masks. There is no combat system in the game, so you're purely dependent on stealth. That works well in virtual reality, because you can now literally now to peek around the corner or there is something before you go running.
Not everyone you meet is an enemy, just a handful of 'people' you attack. The rest of the people you encounter is more focused on themselves, which we immediately arrive at the following tip: Here They Lie seems really at times to look at the bizarre.
You have the usual jump scares you a horror game and are accustomed to certain documents twists a walk in strange corners as you walk through it (which I liked a lot less impressive than I had expected in advance). Halfway through the game, however, you enter a segment that plays in a red light district. The images you see here are of course some sexually explicit, but the search more tripping on - some more results in a feeling in your gut than pure fear. A few scares early on is Here They Lie therefore not necessarily call it scary, but plays the nasty images more with your feelings.
Through the game, there have been collecting various collectibles that give you more background, but they are so cryptic that I still had no idea at the end of the story, what happened exactly. An artistic form of storytelling I can certainly appreciate, but this was just too vague.
During my first play session I had to get used to the way of governing. You walk with the left analog stick to the way you look to. That sounds pretty obvious, but look to the left and the right in the game is out of sync with how you look in real life. The camera in the game is running will cover only a small piece on the way, so I could see all the way to the left, but the camera turned minimal.
This resulted in that after playing half an hour had to turn off the headset because my body could not get used to here and I was left with mild nausea. Then the next day I pushed, had been here for a lot less bother and went during the second session of play at all over, but it's certainly something worth mentioning is now more people for the first time to get started with VR.
Graphically the game looks okay from. The areas where you walk through are atmospheric and for the most part black and white with small touches of color incorporated. The Dana moments you encounter in the game or see her in the distance, there is a strange serrated edge around her, outside the PlayStation VR on TV appears as a kind of shimmer. Something is not quite reproduced well in the game itself.
THE JUDGEMENT
Here They Lie belongs to the genre horror game, but is not necessarily a scary game. It has obviously jump scares, but it allows you to more scratching your head about the psychological sinister world around you, who knows how to intrigue despite the (sometimes forced), weird things happen. For 19.99 euros you get an adventure of about four hours at times a little too vague for a rope to tie together.
